FAQs

How does the U-Pass work?

U-Pass is a group discount program, which lowers the cost of transit for full-time NorQuest students.

All full-time NorQuest students taking classes within the transit area pay a low mandatory U-Pass fee each Fall, Winter and Spring term, which is much lower than the cost of purchasing monthly passes for the same period of time because costs are spread over a large participant base. U-Pass fees are collected by the Students’ Association and transferred to transit providers to help fund the transit service.

How do I get my U-Pass?

Once you have been assessed the mandatory U-Pass charge and have paid all your fees you can bring your NorQuest Student ID to the SANQC Office to receive your U-Pass sticker. The sticker is affixed to your ID and you can use your ID to access transit.

*Please note: U-Passes can only be given to the owner of the ID card in question. Under no circumstances will we issue a U-Pass on a students’ behalf, whether it’s to another student, friend or family member.

What if I lose my ID card with my U-Pass?

  1. To replace your ID card, you must pay a $15 replacement fee at the Office of the Registrar (A104) to get a new ID card. For the most up to date information on Student ID cards, please click here.
  2. Bring your new ID card to the SANQC Office (1-114)
  3. We will post the current U-Pass replacement fee to your account.
  4. You pay the replacement fee at the Office of the Registrar.
  5. Return to the SANQC Office to have the replacement sticker put onto your ID card.

*Please note: It is a chargeable offense to sell or give your U-Pass sticker away.

What if I damage my U-Pass?

If you damage your U-Pass sticker it may be able to be replaced for free depending on the type and severity of the damage. Bring your damaged U-Pass sticker to the SANQC Office for further assistance.

Why is U-Pass mandatory?

U-Pass is a group discount program for students. In order to be able to offer a large discount the overall cost must be spread over a large group. Therefore, ALL students in the eligible group must participate to get the discount.

Who is eligible for a U-Pass?

All full-time students of NorQuest College that have paid the SANQC on-campus fee and are taking classes within the city limits of the participating municipalities would be charged the U-Pass fee.

How are fees collected?

The U-Pass fees are collected by NorQuest College on behalf of SANQC. If you want to confirm that you have been assessed the U-Pass fee, please check your fee assessment or your MyQuest account for details for the appropriate terms.

The fees for the U-Pass will be assessed for each fall, winter and spring term that an eligible student is registered.

Can part-time students opt-in?

Part-time students are not able to opt-in to the U-Pass program. To implement the U-Pass program, Students’ Council needed to select large groups to include. The Students’ Council decided to only include full-time students at this time as they felt they were the group that would benefit the most. With new fare media being developed we feel there will be reasonable alternatives for part-time students introduced.

Who can apply to opt-out?

  • Employees of participating transit systems.
  • Students with a valid Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) registration.
  • Students with a valid Disabled Adult Transit Service (DATS) registration.
  • Students with a valid Fort Saskatchewan Special Transportation Services Society (STSS) registration.
  • Students with a valid Leduc Assisted Transportation Services (LATS) registration.
