Governance

Governance ensures that SANQC remains accountable to students and focused on their needs. Through elected representatives, NorQuest students have a role in shaping the priorities, services, and advocacy work of their Students’ Association.

Students are SANQC’s highest authority.

The Students’ Association of NorQuest College (SANQC) is governed by students. Incorporated under Alberta’s Post-Secondary Learning Act, our governance structure is designed to ensure the Students’ Association remains accountable, transparent, and focused on the needs of NorQuest students.

Through elections, referendums, annual general meetings, conversations with elected leaders, and our bi-annual needs assessment, students play a direct role in shaping SANQC’s priorities, advocacy efforts, services, and future direction.

How Students Can Get Involved

Students' Council Elections

Students’ Council Elections give NorQuest students the opportunity to elect the student leaders who will represent their interests and advocate on their behalf. General elections are held annually in February/March, with a by-election in September to fill any vacant positions.

Whether voting or considering future leadership opportunities, participating in Students’ Council elections is an important way for students to have a voice in shaping the student experience at NorQuest.

Referendums

Referendums give NorQuest students the opportunity to vote on important issues or specific student services. Unlike elections, which determine who will represent students, referendums allow students to vote directly on specific questions.

By participating in referendums, students can have a direct say in decisions that impact the NorQuest student community and help shape the future of the Students’ Association.

SANQC Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The SANQC AGM is an opportunity for NorQuest students to learn about the work of the Students’ Association, hear updates on key initiatives, and participate in voting on bylaw changes.

By attending the AGM, students can stay informed, ask questions, and contribute to conversations that help shape the direction of the Students’ Association.

Community Table Conversations

These are informal opportunities for NorQuest students to connect with Students’ Council members to share, and discuss topics that matter to the student community. These conversations help create an open and welcoming space for students to explore ideas for improving the student experience.

Needs Assessment Survey

The SANQC Needs Assessment Survey is a bi-annual opportunity for NorQuest students to share feedback about their experiences, needs, and priorities. The survey helps the Students’ Association better understand the challenges students face and identify opportunities to improve programs, services, support, and advocacy efforts.
