FAQs

Why do I need a health and dental plan?

Life can be tough and unexpected situations can pop up! You’ll want to be prepared as many of these situations would require you to pay out of pocket if you don’t have extended coverage.

The SANQC Health & Dental plan is here to make sure that you have all of the coverage you need if you have any health care concerns or unforeseen needs. With this plan, you get coverage for a wide range of services, including 100% coverage for prescription medication, massage, physiotherapy, chiropractor and other paramedical service benefits, and ambulance coverage. You also get vision and dental care, which are essential to your wellbeing!

I'm a funded student, are these fees covered by my funding?

Some students’ funding does not cover these fees. If your funding does not include them, it is essential that you either pay the fees yourself or opt-out before the deadline. To confirm whether your health and/or dental, and mylegalplan insurance fees are covered, please contact your Financial Advisor at NorQuest before the opt-out deadlines.

What is the difference between Alberta Health Care and the SANQC Health & Dental plan?

The SANQC Health & Dental plan is a great addition to the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP). It doesn’t replace it, but it adds on valuable coverage to make sure that all aspects of your health are taken care of.

The SANQC Health & Dental plan adds on coverage to what is already provided by AHCIP to support your everyday health care needs!

With AHCIP, you are able to see a doctor, psychiatrist, undergo diagnostic services, and have serious operations.

The SANQC Health & Dental plan provides additional coverage to you for extended needs such as vision care, dental care, prescription medication coverage, ambulance coverage, and paramedical services such as massage, physiotherapy, acupuncture, chiropractor and more!

Overall, the SANQC Health & Dental plan works with the AHCIP to make sure that you are in the best health possible.

Learn more about your SANQC Health & Dental plan HERE and more about AHCIP covers HERE.

Am I on the SANQC Health & Dental plan? When does coverage start? How do I use the plan?

Eligible students are automatically enrolled in the SANQC Health & Dental plan. If you have been assessed for Health & Dental fees as eligible student, your coverage will start on the first day of the month in which your classes start. Students will have 12 months of coverage from when it begins.

For example, if your classes start in September, your Health & Dental coverage would begin on September 1st and continue to August 31st of the following year.

Students will experience an activation period during their first 60 days of coverage. This does not mean you do not have insurance. During this period, students will be unable to direct bill, submit claims, or be found in the Alumo database. If you use a Health & Dental service during this time frame, you will need to pay the bill, keep the receipt and submit a claim for reimbursement after the activation period.

Students can view their benefits, generate their insurance card, learn about select savings, and submit claims on the Alumo website.

To opt-out or add-on family members: Students have 14 days from the start date of their classes to opt-out or add-on family members to their Health & Dental plan.

How do I register to access my SANQC Health & Dental benefits?

Click HERE and follow the instructions to create an account.

You can also learn how to submit your claims here.

Will having LNU or FNU impact direct billing or being reimbursed?

No, it will not. However you will need to duplicate your name when registering on the Alumo website and when creating your benefits card.

Data from NorQuest

  • Last Name: LNU

Data sent to Insurance Provider

  • First Name: Gurpreet Singh
  • Last Name: Gurpreet Singh

I am a non-credit student, am I covered under the SANQC Health & Dental Plan?

The SANQC Health & Dental plan does not cover non-credit students.

However, students that are not eligible for the SANQC Health & Dental plan can connect with an Alumo advisor for personal plan options HERE.
